How is December half over already?

I cannot believe that winter is fast upon us here in New Hampshire.  It's been a hot minute since I got on to talk about SPIN, so I wanted to get everyone back up to speed on the last few months.  Is it just me or does time fly by sooooo much faster once the kids go back to school?  So in lieu of our usual monthly gathering (I've decided calling them gatherings instead of meetings feels much more inviting) we had planned a reunion cookout.  A few of our former friends that have moved on or gotten married were going to join us to catch up! Unfortunately, mother nature had other plans, and we got rained out.  The gathering was quickly relocated to a local coffee shop where I heard it was a huge success!  Fast forward to October where we hosted our annual crockpot meal exchange.  This event is a favorite among our moms because it's fun and it takes the mental load off of the endless question of "what's for dinner?"  When you have school aged kids in ...

Re-introducing ourselves to the Community Summer 2024

Image
Did you know that in the state of New Hampshire, 29% of all children live in single parent homes? We didn't either. That's up from 27% from 2019.  It's safe to say that the status of "single parent" is on the rise.  This summer we did things a little different here at SPIN. We branched out into the community and participated in weekly community outreach events where we met with a handful of single parents in need of SPIN.  Fingers crossed they manage to make it to a future meeting.  We also hosted a couple of pop-up events in the area where we provided face painting for the kids and some literature and conversation for the parents.  Even though SPIN has been part of the community for the past decade there's soooo many people that still don't know about us.  We're hoping to change all of that real soon. June SPIN meeting 2024

Image
Hello SPIN community, I'm back!  I just want to take a moment to catch all of you up on what's been going on at SPIN.  For June's meeting we took a much-needed break for ourselves and made some beautiful floral planters.  It's always nice to work on a little self-care/love.  As parents, especially single parents, we don't often have the means nor the time to just focus on ourselves.  Even if only for a brief moment of time.  That's one of the many reasons why SPIN is such a blessing to us.  If nothing else, we at least get those 2 hours to just take a breath and know that our kids are being cared for and entertained.  As many of you know, sometimes these blips of time are spent being inspired and sometimes they are spent crying.  It's comforting to know that whatever life may be throwing your way there's a support network to help get you thru those more trying times.  Often we leave feeling empowered and encouraged, but that month we lef...

Introduction to SPIN

Image
Welcome to the Official SPIN (Single Parents In Need) Blog!  Most of you will find this blog based on invite, but if you've stumbled upon it by accident then welcome!  We are a faith-based support group in the Milford, NH area for Single Parents.  We were first established around 2014 so we've been active for quite some time, but are starting to dip our toes into a much bigger pool.  The purpose of this blog will be to basically establish a timeline of activities and community events pertaining to SPIN.  My goal is have a reference point for future parents to go back and experience all the blessings that SPIN has to offer.   We meet in person monthly to discuss challenges/struggles/victories but our community is not just limited to once a month.  Each month we may host an activity, a celebration, a talk "therapy session," or a guest speaker on basic life skills. This blog will include entries of at least once a month to summarize that month's meet...
